We have changed our name
Welcome to the Southwest Popular Culture American Culture Association!
Thank you to all of our presenters and attendees at the 2013 Southwest/Texas Popular Culture and American Culture Association’s 34th Annual Conference, February 13-16, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With over 900 attendees, the conference was four days jam-packed with interesting, engaging presentations, new and old friends, and great conversation!
Special thanks go to our featured speakers, Jane Espenson and Brad Bell, co-creators of the comic web-series about marriage equality, Husbands (Husbandstheseries.com); David Peterson, creator of the Dothraki and High Valyarian languages for HBO’s Game of Thrones, language and culture consultant for SyFy’s Defiance, and president of the Language Creation Society (www.conlang.org); and Dr. Øyvind Vågnes (University of Bergen, Norway), whose book Zaprudered: The Kennedy Assassination Film in Visual Culture (Univ. of Texas Press, 2011) won the 2012 Peter C. Rollins Book Award. As announced at the conference, this is an exciting time for the Association. We will continue to offer the same great conference experience for professional academics, independent scholars, and graduate students that we always have. While doing so, we will be moving forward under a new name as a national/international conference: Southwest Popular/American Culture Association. We will debut a new website to mark this shift in April 2013. Check back here for more information.Mark your calendars and make plans to join us next year for our 35th annual conference, February 19-22, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico! | |
